The farmhouse in its current form was built in 1864, but originally stood along the shores of the former Zuiderzee, just over a kilometre from its present location. In 1825, a devastating storm combined with a spring tide destroyed the original farmhouse. Historical maps of the former hamlet of Hoophuizen show that several farms were never rebuilt on the mounds along the coast after that storm.
At the time, building materials were scarce, so whatever could be salvaged was hauled inland and reused in the reconstruction of the farmhouse in 1864. The heavy beams found throughout the current building seem to tell that story—some still bear the joinery marks and slots where other timbers were once connected. A quiet link to former times, before 1825...
Fortunately the former Zuiderzee was tamed with huge dykes around 1930, so the region is safe now and the Zuiderzee has become Veluwe lake.
In the rear part of the farmhouse we have created a spacious holiday home and B&B. The house is spread over two floors, each with its own distinctive atmosphere. This unique character is brought to life by the original wooden beams, which have been kept visible wherever possible, and the surprising sense of space beneath the thatched roof. We’ve also preserved the traditional window frames with small panes—now fitted with double glazing for comfort.
The house borders a garden of nearly 4,000 square metres, which is also open to our guests.
In addition to peace, space, and beautiful surroundings, we serve a mostly organic breakfast to start your day in the best possible way.
